This clinic specializes in orthopedic acupuncture, which means I use modern diagnostic approaches along with Traditional Chinese Medicine and "neoclassical" advances in TCM to help you to achieve your physical recovery goals. Below are just a few of the techniques that are available to me to bring a unique and focused approach to your healthcare.
Acupuncture
Insertion of fine needles into the body to stimulate circulation, reduce pain, affect injury, treat disease, and aid in balance and recovery. It is used to alleviate symptoms caused by ailments from arthritis to migraines. Acupuncture also stimulates the nervous system and improves conduction and communication between nerves. This improved functioning of the nervous system stimulates neurotransmitter actions and the release of the body’s natural endorphins and other opioids. The release of serotonin often gives patients a feeling of relaxation and calm which can last for hours or longer post treatment. Research has also shown acupuncture’s ability to relieve myofascial pain and reduce the inflammatory response.
Cupping
Cupping is a body treatment, which applies negative pressure on the skin using glass, plastic or silicone cups. The suction created stimulates and increases blood flow which can help relieve joint and muscle pain, reduce inflammation, accelerate recovery, increase the function of the lymphatic and circulatory system and increase overall relaxation and well-being. By creating suction, negative pressure cupping lifts and releases congested connective tissue, loosens adhesions and helps re-oxygenate old tissues that have been injured, while increasing healthy circulation to the targeted area. The benefits of cupping are numerous.
Celluma Low Level Light Therapy
Light therapy, also known as phototherapy or low-level light therapy, is the application of specific wavelengths of light energy to tissue to obtain therapeutic benefits for a variety of conditions including skin, pain and hair restoration. Celluma Pro light therapy can be used as a stand alone treatment or combined with acupuncture to treat acne, wrinkles, aging and hyperpigmentation, pain, injury, and even hair loss. It is recommended to use LLLT at least 3x/week for 4 weeks for best results.
Tuina
An incredible hands-on Chinese therapeutic massage technique used to enhance the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions. While effective enough to be used as a stand-alone treatment, it is most often used in this clinic as an adjunct to treat injuries, muscle imbalances, and even internal diseases.
Guasha
Often referred to as “scraping”, guasha is an ancient technique used in Chinese medicine that uses a firm edge (often a porcelain soup spoon) to brush over the surface of the skin in order to encourage circulation, relax muscle, reduce scar tissue, and diminish pain. Similar to cupping, guasha can accelerate recovery by reducing inflammation and reducing congestion in the tissues.
Herbal Medicine
Herbal medicine has been a long standing and extremely important tenet of Chinese Medicine. When targeted well, plant medicine can be used effectively to balance the system and help you regain your health. This might come in the form of reducing inflammation, encouraging circulation, decreasing pain, improved digestion, elevating mood, better energy, or good sleep. The reach of Chinese herbal formulas are as vast as acupuncture itself.
