SPRING 2025 NEWSLETTER: Why do cats purr?

VIBROACOUSTIC THERAPY

Scientists have found that cats purr at a consistent frequency between 25-150 Hertz and have hypothesized that some of these frequencies may in fact have therapeutic benefits to their hosts.

(One of my cats, “The Dude”)

Can burying ourselves under 20 cats possibly calm the nervous system, reduce pain, blood pressure, anxiety, and stress?

YAAAS, right?!

So what am I even talking about? Vibroacoustic Therapy (or VAT) uses low frequencies and therapeutic music delivered through special speakers called transducers embedded into the treatment table. As you make contact with the embedded speakers, the music is sent from the source into the transducers and is felt by the body as vibrations, and heard by the ears as sound. The vibro-tactile input stimulates nerve bundles along the spine, up into the brain stem and then through the limbic system (part of the brain that supports emotions, behaviors, memories and motivation).

Studies have found promising results with vibration therapy’s ability to influence the body’s cells, tissues, and nervous system. It creates a deep sense of relaxation, and has the benefits of lowering blood pressure, reducing pain, moving circulation, reducing anxiety and stress, and enhancing sleep. It can be a non-invasive way of addressing ptsd, mental health, and some studies have even found evidence that it may help lower the negative symptoms of MS and Parkinsons. Think of VAT like a full body concert for the cells. It is a non invasive, gentle, low frequency therapy, that is a powerful powerful tool for sedating the nervous system. Studies are still in their infancy, but have had encouraging results for decades.

All I can say is that you have to try it and see what you think or feel. I have been using the table almost every time I finish a shift. If I’m lucky, I throw in 20 minutes before. It has been a tool to help soothe frayed nerves from the bombardment of negativity that I get almost daily.

I am offering all established patients a chance to use this for FREE for the month of April. As many times as you want.

In return, I just ask that you fill out the questionnaire that I will be sending to you to help me fine tune my flow. It will also give you an opportunity to offer your input.

I will be starting with 6 options (Solfeggio’s Frequencies) that start from 363 hz to 969 hz. Unlimited visits in the month of April will give you a chance to try a different frequency at each session should you wish. It is recommended to start low. I will also help guide you, so no worries.

What kind of woo woo am I walking into exactly?

  • Your actual VAT session is 30 minutes, with time for initial setup, and time afterwards to gently collect yourself before facing the real world again.

  • You will be lying on a regular massage table topped with a heated PEMF mat,  producing negative air ion particles that purify the air and increases oxygenation

  • You will be provided with a sleep mask, heat lamp, and blanket. (if desired)

  • You will be provided with BOSE noise cancelling headphones.

  • Your sound selection will be one of 6 Solfeggio frequencies, tones between 396 and 963 hz.

  • Sink down. Relax.

If you have been as stressed as I have been, please take this opportunity to escape for a little while, on me. Of course, acupuncture is always available for the same purposes, but sometimes, something a little different is fun and wonderful.

*There are a few contraindications, so please consult with your doctor if you have concerns.

*Contraindications are listed on the scheduling page.
